BELLE RIVE FARMS

Belle Rive Pecans

In 2006, Belle Rive Farms investigated options to diversify and minimize risks. With the need to earn foreign currency and hedge ourselves against a weakening rand, together with a growing interest in the pecan industry, the first Pecan trees were planted.

From a humble beginning of 5 hectares (12,4 acres) planted in the first year, the orchard quickly expanded to approximately 200 hectares(494 acres) today. Mainly four varieties were planted. Wichita leads the way at 70% of the total crop, Choctaw at 20% and Navaho and Western Schley making up for the rest as cross pollinators.

Harvest takes place from June through end of August.

As production increased, the need for a grading and processing plant arose. In 2016 the Savage Grayline was installed to clean up the harvest and grade the pecans into conforming sizes.

In 2020 Belle Rive Pecans introduced their cracking and shelling plant.
